How to Read the Bible
by Skip Moen, D. Phil.
How we read. Is that a loaded statement or what. That is fraught with presupposed ideas, understanding, context. In my myopic thinking it is all about me and what I want/need it to say. How it can benefit me what I need to and when I can leave it alone.
What if I were to change my ways, to try to the best of my abilities, and read it again. Yes, I have read it before, many have. Yet, instead of really trying to look at it afresh we say “I already read that and it is either boring or does not apply”.
Wow, is their a more selfish thought, more about me. Can I work to constantly put the “me” in check and view as it relates to the community around me and how I supposed to belong and engage with it. Those boring details and things we thought did not apply suddenly take on a different perspective.
Oh, and if you really did read the above link, then the title will have context too…
