Pen to paper…
My Personal God
by Skip Moen, D. Phil.
We spoke last about David and his diary entries in Psalms. Vicki, our Pastor’s wife, is what some would call “old School”, she still writes notes and letters to people on actual paper, yeah I know right!
Truth is there is a personal connection that comes with putting pen to paper. She carefully thinks out what she wants to write. Her choice of words are from her heart and are focused on the individual. There is no bulk mail in Vicki’s world, each is unique.
Penned with a purpose, David wrote with intention. The Name of YHVH is of utmost importance and reverence to the Jew. Of course you knew that is why we have LORD in our bibles, to not use the name YHVH, though I would suspect not for the same reason, but that is for another discussion.
Names are intimate, personal, sometimes descriptive, and even authoritative. Our God does have a name YHVH, His son has a name Yeshua. I am OK with using Lord, God, Jesus, but let’s be clear like David, when He wants to make a point clear he addresses the one being spoken to or about directly by name.
Just don’t want to let language translations and time minimize or detract from David’s words and who they were penned about. He chose those words for a reason, it’s up to us to listen and learn.
Shalom/Chairete,
Bob
